What's Saving My Life vol. 2

This is a fun practice that I've learned from some of my favorite online follows, but I've seen it all over the internet. My favorites are episodes from The Lazy Genius and Emily P. Freeman. Here, I'll share 10 things that are saving my life (life savers, if you will) from little gadgets to rhythms and routines in hopes that they might help your life be more purposeful and peaceful too.

Here's 10 Things Saving My Spring Life, 2024 (April, May, June!)

  1. Saranoni Blankets. I am snuggled with one of these blankets now, and slowly all of the blankets in our house are being replaced by these fantastic blankets! I've had most of our for several years, and they wash well, are a perfect weight and incredibly cozy. Our room is cooler in the summer months and these blankets are the best!

  2. Child safe closures for my closet doors. I have lots of bi-fold closet doors in our house and some of them have items our toddler shouldn't get into - like the 25lb bag of flour. These go over the top of the door and also prevent fingers being pinched!! I have them on all of our closets now and I wish I had found them years sooner!

  3. Making cinnamon chip bread. We loooove Great Harvest's cinnamon chip bread! This spring I learned how to make a copycat version at home that is nearly just as good!! This is the recipe that I've been using and it is delicious!! I haven't had nearly as much time to bake now that summer is here, but I'm looking forward to fall and making this over and over.

  4. Labels for our toy bins. I replaced all of our fabric toy bins with these plastic bins from Target, and they have held up so well! This spring, I ordered these chalkboard labels that clip onto the baskets to sort the toys - a box for Paw Patrol, a box for Bluey, a box for baby dolls, etc! We've had them labeled for months and my girls have kept them sorted. PLUS, they're not dumping out all of the boxes to search for that one specific toy that they were hoping to find. Win, win, win.

  5. Deleting socials from my phone. I love social media. And man, I enjoy the person I am more when I am not scrolling on my phone more than I should. For most of June, I kept Instagram and Facebook off of my phone - checking in occasionally, but not scrolling on the regular. I hope to continue a similar rhythm for the summer!

  6. The Lazy Genius Podcast. Man, I love podcasts. In the summer when I am cleaning our Denali Hideaway nightly rental, I am always listening to a podcast to keep my entertained while cleaning. The Lazy Genius Podcast has all sorts of tips from time management, to what to pack in your kids' lunches, to lists just like this one.

  7. Hanging my laundry outside. Wow, wow, wow. Two lists in a row that mention laundry! Last time, it was sorting laundry by kid. This time, it's the slow process of hanging my laundry outside. One would think that will several kiddos and running a business, I would have "better" things to do with my time, but man if I haven't fallen hard for this slow task. There's only so many weeks that it is even an option, and I'm using them while I can! I also get pre-nostalgic and can already picture a day wehre there's no more little girl dresses to hang on the line. So I'll do it with joy in the meantime!

  8. Homemade taco bell quesadilla sauce. Apparently, I've gotten into making copycat recipies, ha! This sauce is so good, my oldest kiddo says that I should open up my own restaurant and just serve this. That's not in the plans for now, but you never know. ;) I started with this copycat recipe and omitted the jalopeno ingredients. This sauce is so good on quesadillas, taco bowls or even as a dip for tortilla chips.

  9. My greenhouse. I love my greenhouse and have been spending so much time out there! Here's our first update on how we built it. We spend so much time out there - opening the windows in the morning, closing the windows at night, watering, looking for weeds, and this summer - releasing 1,500 ladybugs after we got some aphids.

  10. Friends who help you get a squirrel out of your house. Well, this is out of left field. This spring, one of my kiddos accidentally let a squirrel in the house. It was sitting on the deck and she wante dto see its tail and so she opened the door and inside it ran!! It hid behind our kithcen island (which was pushed up against the wall) and it took three adults, one kiddo, one dog and two brooms to get it out. You can see a video of the chaos here.

That's it!! Ten things that are saving my life in the quarter two of 2024. I'd love to hear what's saving your life right now...

Thanks for reading,

-Kami
