Today, I'm thrilled to share some beautiful - and chilly!!! - images from my sister-in-law Karly's winter maternity shoot!!
My brother Caleb married Karly in 2022 and they are expecting their first little one this winter!! If you've been following along - yes!!! - this is a fun season for our growing extended family! I just shared my sister-in-law Elle's maternity photos this fall and took my niece T's newborn photos this November! The Graham clan is growing and multiplying and it is such a sweet season.
We took Karly's maternity photos on a cold day in January. We were hoping for a warmer day, but when we looked at the forecast, we realized that the day we took these would be the *warmest* day in the foreseeable forecast. And that day? A solid -10*F (or colder!) the whole time. Thankfully, the sun reached that time of year where it peeks over the mountain for about an hour each day again! So while we had some sun to work with, we were on the clock to make it count!
We stopped at a few locations to try to get some snowy trees and sunshine. The first was our local airstrip where we got some gorgeous sun! Honestly - it was almost too much bright sunshine, so we headed to stop number two. At stop two, we used Caleb's wolf to keep mama warm! I love that Karly is fully embracing her Alaskan life! And honestly, the wolf kept her really warm even at these sub zero temperatures! At stop three, I had gorgeous light (and a gorgeous mama who was still being a champion in the cold!!) but I hadn't gotten the right shot that I wanted. I was hoping for a more beautiful winter background and asked for just one photo at a close location.
Stop four was the WINNER! I take my girls to this creek all summer long. It's actually a quick four-wheeler drive from our house and my girls LOVE throwing rocks here. But, I don't think I've ever been here in the winter! It was our coldest stop yet. The steam off of the creek made for some really misty images, but the golden sunlight on the trees and the radiant mama before me was all worth it!
